Mental Health Advocacy Project (MHAP) West Lothian

We provide professional advocacy services for people who use or need to use mental health services in West Lothian. Our service is Independent and not connected with providers of mental health services or carers.





What is Advocacy?

Advocacy is about helping individuals or groups to speak up for themselves (by speaking on their behalf with their permission or supporting individuals to speak for themselves) about issues that concern them.





Who can ask for Advocacy from MHAP?

Anyone who experiences mental health illness, is between 18 and 65 who lives in West Lothian or is an inpatient in hospital in West Lothian or anyone who uses or needs to use mental health services.





Why would I need Advocacy?

You may need advocacy to help you: Speak to professionals such as: Doctors, Nurses, Lawyers, Social Workers, etc…With representation in tribunals and reviews, etc...Write or change an Advanced Statement…Choose or change a Named Person… To protect your rights, we can help you with issues around; the Mental Health Act, the Adults with Incapacity Act, Care & Treatment, Housing, Family, Benefits/Finance, Employment and Criminal Procedures.
